For over 70 years MacDon has been a world leader in technology, innovation and manufacturing of high-performance harvesting equipment. When they were developing their new M1 Windrower Series, they reached out to us for our expertise with design, analysis and the agriculture industry.
Their main priority was the function and comfort for their customers combined with a sleek design that we adapted from the provided concept sketches. We modelled the intricate design of the cab and hood, keeping MacDon’s specifications in mind and working collaboratively throughout the entire process.
Using advanced CAD software, we designed the:
- Inner roof liner
- Outer roof
- Headliner
- Dash
- Compartment bins
- Floor mats with a specific material to absorb noise and vibration
- Hood, including features for mounting the lights
Inside the cab, one of our major successes was integrating and determining the mounting points for different features such as the stereo and the GPS system. We used our experience with metals, plastics and composites to make sure all of the parts integrated together without issue. Every detail was thoroughly discussed among our engineering team to find the best solution for MacDon.
In addition to the detailed design work, we performed analysis on the hood and roof to verify the selected materials and design would perform as required. A specific load case that we analyzed for was the effect of the hood vibrating while driving. We also worked directly with MacDon and their fabricator to ensure any changes needed after prototyping were done correctly and quickly, keeping their product development on schedule.
We delivered a complete design that MacDon could take into production and bring their new M1 Series Windrower to market.
