Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology is a leading global supplier of mining and rock excavation equipment, technology and services. We worked with Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology to design a waterproof fibreglass enclosure that houses the Sandvik Eris Control Panel. The panel is used in a harsh mining environment to remotely operate mining equipment and the enclosure needed to be waterproof and durable, while maintaining a light weight for transport.
One of the biggest challenges Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology faced was water and debris getting into the enclosure and damaging the control panel. Our Design Team took on this challenge to re-design the enclosure to make it waterproof and our Testing Team performed impact testing to make sure the new materials were durable enough.
A few key features that were added to increase product performance included:
- Waterproof joints and fasteners
- Rubber corners to increase impact resistance
- Ergonomic handle to make transport easier
We worked collaboratively with Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology to make the enclosure durable, lightweight and most importantly, waterproof. They have taken the enclosure into production and are also testing it in the field to make sure it will stand up to the harsh mining conditions.
