Motor Coach Industries (MCI) was developing a new coach, the MCI® D45 CRT LE Commuter Rapid Transit Coach and required our Fabrication Team’s expertise to verify their designs with functional prototypes. MCI was looking to create pilot buses that they could perform on-road testing with and as such, they needed parts that would perform similar to the final manufactured parts.
We supported MCI with prototype tool and part fabrication for multiple parts including doors, panels and light pockets. We also used our 5-axis machining centre to fabricate the complex cores to be used in manufacturing. To ensure all the parts were manufacturing-friendly, we transformed the client-provided models into detailed designs that could be used for manufacturing.
Throughout the project MCI was directly involved and was at our facility on a regular basis, making this a truly collaborative project. We consider it one of our greatest strengths to be able to deliver quality products while meeting our clients’ timelines; we were often turning out prototype tools within weeks and parts within days to make sure MCI could continue with their product development.
